Where's my mother?

It's a bit of a turn of events, us branding in December, but a good one.

The kids are pretty good helpers now and with a paddock of first time mothers they jumped at the chance to help out again.

I'm in charge of the food...of course! So with my esky full of scrumptious goodies and camera in hand I made my way to the yards for smoko.

These inquisitive young babes are just delightful.

Branding earlier than normal means they are smaller, which makes for an easier job.

The canopy of trees providing the perfect shade...

Discussion about possibly anything while they wait for their orders for the next six calves.

The first time mothers, watching and waiting!

And when the job is done they run to find their mother,

and they run,

and run,

and run...

with their ears flapping,

sporting a new tattoo and ear piercing...

Some mothers are better at finding their babes than others and clearly some are more interested in me sitting on the rail and some are patient souls by nature, they just wait!

And with that the rejoining of a mother and her precious babe…
